Found this in NC @ 401 and the neuse river with my cheapo metal detector.

After examining with a 10x microscope it looks like brass or gold was the final plating.

Any one know how to clean it without removing what little of the plating off that is left?

Its origin has been determined as British on the recent finds forum but not an exact match as of yet.l

Aluminum Jelly. Hard to find though.
