Nice...Look's like an 1851 Engineer's Cap Badge,most likely Union.I tried finding one with letter's on top but I couldn't.Nice dig

Isn't there supposed to be a wreath around it, up until around 1895 or so? I think yours is WW1 era, K would indicate the Company.

I stand corrected, my bad jhamner (and civilman1). It seems the actual castle insignia can be metal or cloth embroidered while the wreath is always embroidered on. Nice find.

Thanks--have one--left it in the car...it was 97 degrees and I couldn't bear to put it on!
