    Engineer's cap device?

I found this cap insignia near where I recently found a Confederate wreath. I put it in my pocket and when I got home I found that the "K" had broken off--STUPID ME!!! I tacked it back on as best I could. In any event, I was wondering if anyone recognizes it--I was hoping for Civil War Confederate, but that may be stretching it a bit! Any help appreciated! Jack.
P.S.--Apologies if I have double-posted--I was trying to edit out my spelling errors, and not sure if I deleted the error post. I haven't quite figured out all this technology yet!

Isn't there supposed to be a wreath around it, up until around 1895 or so? I think yours is WW1 era, K would indicate the Company.

Thanks, diggummup--I really don't know! We've got one vote for Civil War and one for World War I--I'm SO confused!!!

I stand corrected, my bad jhamner (and civilman1). It seems the actual castle insignia can be metal or cloth embroidered while the wreath is always embroidered on. Nice find.
