    Bayonet

Hello, i year ago, i bought a civil war era bayonet, union. However, when i took a closer look, i saw that the scabbard dated to the 1880's! Was it common for bayonets to have new scabbards? What do you think (scabbard is metal)

your bayonet is probably to a 45-70. Civil War triangular bayo's look almost identical to later 45-70 bayo's, except a little smaller caliber. Both are desirable as indian wars era collectables.

A Lot Of CW Relics Wound Up In The Hands Of Francis Bannerman Who Sold Surplus Military Equipment World Wide From His Castle/Warehouse On The Hudson River In N.Y. It Is Very Probable That Your Bayonet Was Matched With A Later Scabbed At That Time. He Was In Business From 1867-1927. Hope This Helps. trk5capt...
