Have had this pair of swords since around 1976. Dad and I bought at an old farm auction back then. Remember when we bid on we had to buy whole drum full of stuff, rakes, hoes and other handled tools. Dad bought cause he liked these, but I do remember there being what I considered a couple of pirate looking swords that were beat to hell and a roman looking short sword... Now realizing those may have been confederate hand made blades and an artillery short sword. All the other stuff is long gone but these two swords have followed me now and hopefully someone can help out with id? I honestly had forgotten about these till yesterday when we went to a civil war museum and I saw a sword that almost matched except it had a full guard. Drag was exact and motifs on handle we're same also. Any ideas? GAR? Private purchase? Just old militia? I have no idea except they are very old. Blades are not sharpened and almost seem parade like. Maybe early military school items? Any help will be appreciated.

Last pics are of one seen yesterday. My blades are unmarked with maker.

Looks to be a dress sword. Could be a private purchase for reunions. What are the motifs on the butt? I have seen a lot of civil war swords and yours needs an identification. The star on the scabbard has me intrigued. If we can't solve it here maybe we can move it to the "What is it" section and let those guys dig into it? Let me know if you wish it moved.. Pm me.
