Bullets

Found these two bullets three feet apart. They were roughly the same depth ( 6 inches ).
Can someone please give me some info on them? During the war between the states, union troops took over the houses on the street where I live. That's where I found these.

Has anyone ever seen a .41 cal extra long rim fire? Did the use these during the war?

The base of the one looks to be a confederate cast bullet?

For IDing bullets, it is always good tho include the accurate height, diameter, and weight along with the photos.

The one with the flat base looks like a Burnside carbine, the other looks like a

.54 minie. You can try looking at www.relicman.com or google Tom Stelma and see if he has a CW bullet site on the web.

333Demon333, the bullet on the right in your photo is a civil war era US .54-caliber Merrill Carbine bullet (used by both sides but mostly yankee). The one on the left appears to be the same diameter as the one on the right, so it is a .54-caliber yankee 3-groove Minie bullet, made for use in the US Harper's Ferry Model-1841 rifle (commonly called the "Mississippi Rifle"), and also used in imported .54-caliber Austrian rifles.

Generally, where you find two unfired civil war bullets, there's more of them nearby, along with other soldier-equipment, such as uniform buttons, and occasionally some civil war era coins. I suggest you hunt that spot super-closely.
