Hello, My wife and I have recently started relic hunting for Civil War artifacts. I have posted most of our finds here or in "Todays Finds". I often have many questions about what we have found and every time we go out we find a number of unidentified pieces. The folks here are very nice about letting us know what we have if they know but I was wondering if any of you folks could recommend what you think is the best book for identifying Civil War relics (mostly found camp relics so far). I try to look stuff up on the internet, but often even if I find something close there is rarely much info about whatever it is. Anyway, any and all suggestions will be appreciated.

Thanks everyone. Got it on order.

i've used ebay as well as civil war relic sales sites to help identify cw related items. additionally, posting pictures in the "what is it" forums has helped.

also--a random google search of images for cw, period items etc. good luck.

Francis Lords Books are awesome if not a little Dated.
I have (I think Volumes 3, 4 ,5, All in one book) want to get volume 1 & 2 someday. They are in the $50 range.

As stated the late Howard Crouch's book is great, Often borrow a friends copy.

Can not recall the exact title but Charles Harris 's book CW Relics of the Western Theater is a good one.

Plus all old Civil War Trader Mags & American Digger Mag's you can collect often help.

And the Computer of course. but I like to have a hard Copy in front of me.

P.S.never throw anything away until a for shore ID.
