Lost Civil War Gold in Rhea County, Tennessee

Does anyone have a reference to some type of gold buried and lost during the Civil War in Rhea County, Tennessee, perhaps in the Old Washington area? I heard a story the other week from someone who lives in the county and was wondering if there is any basis to it.

often times the armies would not include such info in their reports to keep it from getting into the wrong hands...personally i would go back to your info source and ask more questions..trace the story back to the oldest living person you can find that knows of it..keep notes on what each story teller says as it will be different, coming from several sources...each one may have a bit of info you need that the other doesn't have...study your area libraries collections of recollections/memoirs/soldier diaries for any reference to it...if it is a long standing story there may in fact be basis for it even though its not found in actual records.......gldhntr
