Don't know what it is but the lacing puts me in mind of a boxing glove. Very interesting.

It is about 6inches across. It was nailed to something im guessing from the hole. Powder keg?..thanks for looking

I agree on powder horn, looks like there was maybe a hole on the opposite side also, could have been for brads :dontknow:
