Found this brass clip along with Confederate miniball, rivets, S-hook. some musket balls, and grape shot.

Would like to know what this was used for. Any takers?

randall, thats a fuzzy picture, but it almost looks like a knife hilt.

knife hilt or side plate-- where the bar slides thru on a muzzle loader to hold the barral to the stock.

If it is not thick enough to be a knife hilt, I could be a saddle part. I have found several in Middle Tennessee calvery camps.
