I'm no Button expert (Again Don't Find Many) & Around here many of the GS Buttons were used by the Confederates.


To answer your Question in a simple kinda way , Most CW military one piece buttons did not have backmarks....I could be wrong of course ,that said many Flat Buttons (I dig 1 or 2 a year) for Civilian use did have all kinds of Back Marks , I think ???some Pre-War one piece Militia Buttons may have had Back-Marks.
Also the Confederates used Civilian Buttons when that's all they had.

Again I could be wrong , please correct me if I am. ---'Any Body'.
