Pocket Watch in Battlefield

Originally posted in "what is it" forum and did not get any relies. Found this yesterday in an area that has been cleared for new construction. It also happens to be where a civil war battle took place. It was dug at 8 inches in hard clay. Any idea if this could be a period watch?

I can read partial inscriptions:

"...Jewels ....Adjustments"
"O.Main's......Swiss"

Just on rough guess....I would say it's not period.....But...Could be wrong!

I believe "non Adjustment" or "one adjustment" etc...started showing up on watch movements until well after the civil war.Guessing 1890's or newer, roughly... Again not positive on this... But most Civil war Era pocket watches are Key wind( MOST that I've seen any way there might be a few exceptions )I'll try to find some info...

Either way it's a cool find!

"Battlefield" ? I will assume a non-protected one.

Many Battle Sites are on Private Land.
So I'm def, not accusing you.

It sux IMO that "Found on Battlefield" (to many) is a bad Term.

Thanks, Maybe battle is not the right word...but it was where a Union line was. The land is not protected, but I did ask the builders (who are getting ready to build houses) if they would mind if I swung the detector a little bit. The trees were recently cleared on these lots and I found it 8 inches deep.
