Can anyone help me identify this plate?

I found this old belt plate today in around an old house site that has yielded Virginia buttons (Civil War), large pennies, an 1863 Indian Head, 1857 three- cent piece, Virginia halfpenny, and numerous other artifacts. Can anyone out there help me with a positive i.d.? I'm hoping for Civil War, but the way the "2" is configured looks earlier to me. Anyway, I eagerly await some help from you experts out there! Thanks so much!

Very possibly a British 21st Foot waist belt plate. $$$ find. The 21st Foot also was here at New Orleans during the War of 1812.

It's listed in Troiani's book as 21st Regiment of Foot bayonet belt plate, enlisted pattern. Its a great rare find. If there is a category above banner this belongs there. My banner vote is in.

Value depends on the market conditions. There are a lot of the 21st regiment BUTTONS around still, but there are not a lot of any type of plate out there. Best way to test the market is on Ebay with a decent reserve.

My first time seeing it as well, A Banner Find IMO , BUT I have never even seen that old of a "Marked" Plate.
Nothing that old in my area , that was lost in that era.

I been seeing J.T add's in NS Trader for years.

I'd keep it , as it looks to be in almost 95% Condition.

Also 'Funny ' IMO The OP did not want the plate to be Pre-Civil War .......Well with that shape & style I can see why ; if it said CS on the Face .

It would look GREAT on the Scroll but Ill do a bit of research before my Banner Nomination.
