This is my first post, I am fairly new to metal detecting. I found this item on my family farm in North Alabama. It was found in the same area as a few civil war items. I'm not sure if this could be civil war or an old farm item. It is about 8" long and 6" wide. I have tried to google it but I don't even know what to google. LOL Any help is appreciated.

It resembles an item that the infamous DCMatt solved a while back. Put it on a horse to guard it from the straps digging into the skin and such.

AT 8"s long and 6"s wide that would be a mighty small horse.
