I live outside of Boone so Lenoir and Wilkesboro are not far from here either. Stoneman sent men though Lenoir before meeting back up with him in Wilksboro. They got a couple of our factories and burned some businesses. From what I understand, most of the locals here were pretty passive when they came through so there wasn't a battle here at that time. My fathers house is on what would have been the most direct route to Lenoir from here which would be what is now Highway 321, then they would have taken Highway 268 to Wilkesboro from there. I'm hoping someone might have some info regarding campsites or possible unaccounted caches in the area? I've always wanted to hunt there but I don't really know what to look for when it comes to the signs and markings. There was an old homestead on the property and a graveyard on the mountain with 4 headstones and footstones. I am curious if the deaths may be related to the raid or how I would even look into that stuff. Thanks!
