I'm not an expert but it's most likely a fantasy piece or used for reenactment.

The corrosion looks weird to me, too blotchy, and the back is too clean. I would agree it looks like a reproduction. I too am no expert though. How did you find it?

It is not an original CS buckle sorry to say, definitely a repro.

It was on eBay, or is on eBay, and I just had a funny feeling about this one of course he says he's 90% sure it's authentic. I bought a beautiful dug box plate and now I'm itching for a buckle. Glad you didn't buy it. As noted already - it's not an original CS plate. Even a novice seller should know better - this one isn't even close. An authentic civil war buckle, especially CS or CSA buckles, should only be purchased from reputable dealers, who guarantee authenticity and allow returns/refunds if you're not satisfied.
