That's very odd. It almost looks as if the bottom has been cut off some.

If the bottom hasn't been cut as D stated above, then could it possibly be a .44 caliber Colt Revolver? I know it's probably the wrong answer, but I'm still learning and since I haven't been hunting much, and thanks to all the great finds posted here, I've been learning a lot studying and researching them. Sometimes I'm dead on with my research and other times all I can find are dead ends, but all in all it's good to see all the finds that are being preserved and shared by all of you!!! "D"

It does look like the tip has been cut off a longer bullet but IMO it was def, a smaller caliber & had a deep cavity.
Interesting indeed.

Is there a second groove near the bottom? If it is cut off it has one of the deepest cavities I have ever seen. Stick a toothpick in the cavity, mark it with your finger and compare it to the outside height. I'll try to find something in my books tonight.

Davers, After looking more closely at the pic's, especially pic number three (3), I see where it looks like a second ring was present at one time. Like I said, I'm still learning and hopefully fyrffytr1 will provide us with the answer... "D"
