Look's right to me , but I've only dug 'Frags' thus have only studied them.

I do have a Solid Ball or my Son picked it out at a raffle. 6 or 10 lbs.

As for location found , maybe a ' mass spec, scan ' that may match microscopic dirt or other particles to a certain area.?

We should have a kit for that in 15-20 years. (an affordable one ).

Honestly You really have to trust who you traded with about it's past.

Ill have to look at the one we have , don't know where it was found but will check the 'seam line' that look's right to my aged memory.

Any cannon ball for a few bullets is a hell of a trade.

Cannon balls are much better. See the seam? May be Rev War period.

I only have a 1 pound cannon ball from here in Carlisle. I have some pieces of them but nothing like that. I'd trade a explosive bullet for a cannon ball. Preferably a shell like the bullet.

I checked ours out yesterday I believe it's 10 or 12 lbs , I did not see a Seam but it has decent pitting in some areas and has a thick coat of something ??? Kinda like the Black stuff you see on Artillery but more of a Dark Brown.

If it's Rev-War as Smokey said it's provenance would then be in question , & I know you don't want that. "IMO"

Cool Piece to have.
