I have no idea what it's for. It's a button, right? If so could it of come from a fireman's coat or something. That's neat what ever it is...d2

Great looking button. I'm with d2, with the Maltese Cross ,this could have come from a Fireman's coat or jacket.

I don't think it is fire related. Having PA and NY on it makes me think railroad like JoeG said. Also the loop on the back is off centered making me thing it might be a sew on pin of some kind. Does the loop align with the north south orientation of the front? You might try posting this in the what is it forum near the top of the main page where it will get more exposure.

It has L. U -- P. A -- N. Y I have never seen Pennsylvania abbreviated P. A It would be curious to know what those two abbreviations really are
