Pocket Flute?

Does anybody recognize this?
Found in an area occupied by Native Americans, then miners in the 1850's then again in the 1930's. I did find a couple military buttons at this location.

I'm calling it a "pocket flute" until someone corrects me.
For some reason it feels like something that might be older than 1850's..don't know why.
Maybe because it's crudely fashioned and simple.

Don't know. I wonder if it's missing a mouthpiece?
Bothers me that it is so tricky to get it to whistle every time.

I'm thinking your probably right..tin whistle.
Going to look for a mouth piece tonight.
Probably was wood and long rotted away.

I think pre-Civil War
Relicman #B5113 Federal Infantry button. 1850's through 1860's
