Think I found a Sword or Bayonet Scabbard Throat

Hello all,

I had an excellent day of metal detecting for CW relics today. I found my first Type III Williams, a back plug for another, and what I believe to be either an NCO sword scabbard or some type of bayonet scabbard throat. Any opinions would be helpful. Aside from a knapsack hook, this is the first field gear relic I have found!

I found this example of a Musicians and a Confederate NCO sword scabbard to compare to:

It sure looks like one. Way to go. Now as far as what it went to, hard for me to guess that one.

If the triangular shape opening of the throat is original and not bent that way you may have the upper portion of an English Pattern 853 Enfield bayonet scabbard. The scalloped bottom and the placement of the "hook" to attach to the frog don't look quite right for an P-1853, however. Definitely the throat of a scabbard for a blade or edged weapon of some kind.

Congratulations on some good looking finds i'm sure you will get more , I had an invite to hunt in Cleveland TN years ago but the person turned out to be a Troll.
