Hunted a field near Vicksburg, MS today. Among the items I found was this broken pewter whistle. You certainly don't find many of these in camps. I've included an image of a complete whistle I got off the internet so you can see what a complete whistle would've looked like.
I don't know much about these items. Let me know any information you may have about it...Thanks!

That's really cool!!! I found a whole one yesterday while I was digging in a dump. I'm glad to learn more about it! IMG_20200924_065354203_MP~2.jpg I was maybe guessing they were used by police and school teachers also.

Congrats on yours! Fantastic to find it while.
I was wondering if non commissioned officers used them in trench warfare like they did during WWI
