    need help cleaning a v nickel

    hello all

    i found an 1887 v nickel the other day that is encased in almost copper like corrosion shell i was able to clean some of the face off but the back is not budging tried peroxide was thinking about using electrolysis it was found on a beach so you have a lot of salt water corrosion could use help with alternatives to electrolysis

    Don't use electrolysis. Nickels are 75% copper, and electrolytic cleaning can leave them with a pink-to-orange color.
    Forgotten but not gone.

    Hi Dylan, check out the board 1875 Shield Nickel on the Todays Finds board. I just gave some tips on how (maybe) you can clean those nickels...
