CW Canister Shell Reconstructed-Ever Seen One?

A few years ago, I found the lead base for a canister shell at a U.S. CW Artillery Site. You can see the 3 inch circular base in the center of the pic and one piece of the iron can is still attached there on the left side. I dug the lead chunks in the general area of the site and my wife (a big (CW buff) spent a lot of time trying to match the chunks into the impressions of the lead sabot base. I kinda forgot to tell her that some of the chunks that I dug were half a mile or so apart and were apparently from several different shells. Notice how the chunks made deep impressions into the lead base. The heat from the powder charge was a hot puppy. Dman and i have both dug another half a pint of chunks each in the site area. Thanks for looking and Happy New Year from drizzly Tennessee!!!

I can relate to that. We found two parts of a Parrot shell in different close by fields. Mine was bigger so my buddy gave me his part. They fit like a jigsaw puzzle. Found lots of lead from Bormans but no big lead hunk like that.
