How to clean your Silver.... Secrets revealed !

    Hello all,

I know a great way to clean Silver. This works on Sterling Silver, Coin Silver, and .925 Jewelery. We all know that TarnX stinks try smelling your jewelry after a day or two of cleaning it. TarnX will make your coins tarnish easier after you clean them too. OK, OK I'll tell you now what you want to use. Floride Tootpaste, this will clean your sterling silver and coin silver items and leave them smelling good.

If you know a good way to clean silver please post it.

    Keep @ it and HH!!

I don't advise cleaning silver coins! But to each their own.

Lay a piece of tinfoil inside a bowl. Dump your coins onto the foil. Cover with baking soda and a teaspoon of salt. Pour boiling water over all of this and let it sit until the water cools. Wipe coins clean. Works well with heavily tarnished coins and jewelry, although sometimes on really black stuff you need to do this a couple of times.

I've used this for silver before and it works fast:

Use aluminum pie plate, or other pan with sheet of aluminum foil inside. Add 1 tablespoon or so of ordinary table salt and 1 tablespoon or so of powdered water softener, (baking soda can be used as a substitute for the water softener, but I personally don't know how well it works). Then add some hot (not boiling) tap water to the pie plate and stir to dissolve the salt and softener.

Then dunk tarnished silver items in the solution and rinse off with clean water.

I do sort of the same thing except I put the coin or jewelry in a tin foil strip. I then put the strip in water that contains salt and baking soda ( about a teaspoon of salt and a tablespoon of baking soda) in a small pan. I then boil the whole shebang for about 5 minutes. You will smell the sulphur that causes silver to tarnish and it will deposit on the tin foil. The coins will come out clean and all you do then is rinse and pat dry with a soft cloth. Never rub the coins. I have found that it does not destroy the value of the coin because it does not make scratches and brings out the original grain of the silver. I have a friend who is a coin dealer and he says it is the best way to clean them if you must.
