    Engine Block Cleaner?

    All,

Has anyone else tried experimenting with engine cleaner? I'm having slow but good results in getting the gunk off without chemically or mechanically removing any metal. I'm changing the stuff like three times a day and gently scrubbing with a toothbrush in between. I seem to be making slow but steady progress. Just wondering if anyone else has tried this. I haven't seen any other mention of it on the boards. I'm attaching a before photo and will include an after photo...after.

Never have tried engine cleaner. I guess that's one I missed.

It will be interesting to see your results.

Copper or bronze have always been a challenge to clean.

    J50,

just used it once. Had some glass insulators that had some "stuff" from where the
    wires went around. Worked good.

Have not tried, yet, on anything else.

Re: Engine Block Cleaner? New Pics

Here is the result of block cleaner after about a week of changing and lightly scrubbing with a toothbrush. When I left it overnight, the cleaner took on a light blue tinge, indicating that there was either a chemical change in the substance, or it removed some of the brass. I'll add photo of the coin I cleaned. No loss of detail- at all.

That's as far as I'm going withe the cleaning. Just wanted to see if there were any markings under the green. I am really impressed with the way it worked. And, although it's hard to tell on the coin, it didn't lift the tarnish, only the really bad grime and gunk from all those years in the ground.
