How should i go about cleaning this?

No rust remover b/c rust might be all thats holding it together

Step #1 -- Don't!

Step #2 -- Repeat Step #1.

Once you're sure it's thoroughly air-dried, and before further deterioration sets in, you ight want to consider sealing it with polyurethane varnish or treating it with Extend. For more info on the latter, see the last few paragraphs at:
