Anyone cleaning coins with Harbor Freight Tumbler?

I am a little new to coin shooting. Can anyone using a Harbor Freight Tumbler to clean their finds please share their process? I am uncertain how many coins, similar or all at the same time, how much water and grit, what grit, how long, etc... Any insight you could provide me would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks!

Re: Anyone cleaning coins with Harbor Freight Tumbler?

I got one about a year ago and I still using it with the origional belt. I found out if you put Quarters, Dimes, Nickels only with a small amount of Dawn, fill it with a cup of aquarium rocks, then fill the tumbler 3/4 full with water that it will not overwork the belt. It depends on your coins on how long to leave the tumbler on. Then I do the pennies by themselves. When I got the tumbler they gave me an extra belt in the box. If you don't overload the tumbler it should last you an long time.

Thanks for the reply. I got the "dual" drum model and am going to fire it up with a weeks worth of change tonight. On average how long do you let yours go? I want to clean them up good enough for bank work but don't need them sparkling. Do I check them every 24 hours like the manual says you do for rocks or let them go longer... shorter?

    Thanks.

It all depends on the conditions of the coins. I usually leave my on for about 4 to 8 hrs. I just got a single drum model tumbler, I've heard that if you use an dual drum model, you should not overload the drums.
