    Re: coin cleaning chemicals

I tried cleaning some nasty coins with MS70 and it didn't help much. It's probably a good product for coins that are in fairly good condition but I rarely find those types around here. Nic-a-Lene contains phosphoric acid so it's a harsh cleaner. A couple of years ago I tried it on some nasty IHs and 'V' nickels. I found that it changed the color of the coins more than I liked but it did help reveal detail. I'd only use it on really bad coins. Nic-a-date for nickels stains the coin and I don't remember being able to see a date after using it. Blue Ribbon coin conditioner is basically for coin preservation. It seems like a good product but it contains HCFCs. There are other coin conditioners that are more enviromentally friendly.
