    HELP --- SERIOUS RUST!

I made my first historical relic find the other day. Problem is, it's so CAKED with rust, I don't know exactly what it is.... It appears to be a uniform button or token and was found near an old fort. This thing needs some serious help in terms of rust & buildup crud removal. I'd appreciate hearing from anyone who has dealt with a similar find and has successfully resolved this common problem.

    Re: HELP --- SERIOUS RUST!

I've been using olive oil for years but I've always wondered if the other oils worked but never tried them.

    I don't see why they wouldn't.

We just have olive oil here all the time cause the wife cooks with it. I just swipe it from her when she isn't looking. It doesn't take much for a coin.

But this much I do know, on some coins (dirt impacted) olive oil does a great job. It may take a month or three but she does it.
