    WOW! Thanks, umrgolf2010!!!!!

Just received from umrgolf2010. Cleaned this one first, although other coins and several buttons sent as well. I need to spend some quality time conserving those before posting before and after photos.

See what you think. First 2 photos before acetone cleaning with Q-tips. Last 2 photos after acetone cleaning. Acetone removes only organic material from a coin, and is totally non-corrosive.

Also received this 1833 large cent with hole. Tried cleaning it with a product called "Simple Green". Don't think this was an improvement: coin looks worse after cleaning than before.

    First 2 photos: before cleaning.
    Last 2 photos: after cleaning.

Method: soaked coin for 1 minute, then brushed with medium bristle toothbrush.

The Barbers look alright. Since you only used acetone, the coins would be considered conserved and not cleaned. However, if you hairlined either with the q-tip, they would be considered cleaned.

Coins already hairlined, so wasn't too concerned. Photos should show the dirt abrasion to the right of liberty as well as left on the obverse.

Likely because I mailed notice of the site to Jeff of PA, don't you think?

Seriously, just got back from PO where I mailed a thank you package.

I have the 1909 dime sitting on my desk in front of me, and I STILL can't believe the quality.
