Whats the best way to clean a penney find. Cant make out the back or front from corrosion......

I think its a wheatie but not sure........I really need to figure out the pic thing.

rock tumbler with fish gravel in it. with water just over everything and a couple of drops of dish soap...Matt

If it's that bad, just toss it in your wheat penny jar and be done with it. No sense struggling over something like that. Your time is better spent out detecting to find wheat cents that aren't all cruddy.

Found it at an old house place on the lake that is accessible by boat only......was hoping to see a date on the penney. Trying to get an idea of the age of the place.......I know it could have been lost at any time.

if it's a wheat Find the front & the general area
of the date.
If your not a Woman Use
the top edge of your thumbnail
to Scratch away as much of the corrosion
over the date you can.

Take a Pencil Eraser & Wet the tip.
Erase over the date Area Lightly.
This should bring out the highest
part of the date.

Use Magnifying glass if necessary.

Or electrlysis to clean most of corrosion
then erasser.

Do not worry about damaging a Key date.
If it is corroded & You can't see the date
dosn't matter if it's a 1909 - S - V.D.B.
ain't worth crap till you can prove it.
