Get a 'Patina' on Shiny Saltwater Brass

I put this saltwater beltplate find in a soaking tank which also contained a wooden item that had a small iron pin. (unknown to me).
After a couple days it had darkened considerably.
I'm quite pleased with the result, and have put my NH Militia buttons in for treatment.
The plate was even brighter than shown in the first pic, I had darkened the image in photoshop.
hope this may help those who prefer an older look on these items.
    HH to you all

YEOW! Nice! Sure glad they didn't have to call 911 for ya!

A trick I use. Coffee grounds. Yup! coffee grounds. Save up your used coffee grounds. Bury the item in them. Check them once a day until you get the color you're looking for. Rinse well rub & buff with some minwax furniture paste wax. Try it I think you'll like this technique!
I know it's here, just need a bigger coil!
