Tried Evapo-Rust on found rusty tool

I wanted to try to clean a pair of pliers my wife dug last weekend but did not want to use electrolysis or anything with fumes or caustic acids. I saw Evapo-Rust online and thought I would give it a try. I was not expecting much as it was adverstised as environmental friendly and I have not had a lot of luck with products like that. But i was pleasantly surprised. Here is a series of photos of the pliers from "as dug" , through "simple soap and water wash" to a "16 hour soak" and then an additional "8 hour soak". No scrubbing, just a soak bath and a quick water rinse.

I was pleased with the results.

Been wondering about evaporust. Thanks for the pics & report!

If you're looking for a good solution, try citric acid. You can get it in 1 lb. up to 100 lb. quantities from home brewing supply shops. It's food grade doesn't fume and is cheap. It's what's used on sour gummies etc.

I've been using citric for years in electrolysis baths and dips for cleaning antique tools with excellent results. Another use is in your dishwasher to remove the rust & hardwater crud. Put a half cup in the dishwasher start the cycle then stop it and let it soak for a few minutes. Let the dishwasher finnish running. You'll notice how clean the dishwasher is & how much better it cleans the dishes.
I know it's here, just need a bigger coil!
