    Paraffin Wax To Preserve Iron...

I have read that one can melt paraffin wax in a pan then dip iron relics in it to preserve the iron. Does anyone here do that and if so where do you get the wax and what kind do you use? I have coated stuff with wax paste, but I would like to try the dipping procedure.

Any Arts and Crafts store carries blocks of Paraffin wax. I have only ever coated my iron after electrolysis by coating it liberally with Crisco and then baking in an old toaster oven outside the house (wife says so).

For undug coins this is true.  For dug coins this is untrue.
The value will increase with judicious cleaning."

Re: Paraffin Wax To Preserve Iron...

Can get paraffin wax at the grocery store along with canning supplies. I use it on my iron and have used bee's wax as well. Be careful not to overheat the wax as I got it too hot and it caught fire on the kitchen stove. I will sometimes heat the object in the oven and then rub the wax on it to seal it, but it is harder to get complete coverage.

when melting wax for anything, use a double boiler, i do mine in a candle pan (available at michaels or wherever) and an old tin skillet with water in it. prevents the wax from overheating, takes a bit longer to melt it i think but works great.
