Potato really works on Wheats.

O.K. I saw a reply to a cleaning question by cryptodave the other day about using a Potato to clean pennies so I just had to try it. It works. Here is a before and after pic of a 1910 Wheat that was pretty crusty. I put it in a potato for 24 hours and this is the result:

Thank you cryptodave. I've been trying to find a way to clean these suckers for 2 years. This works the best yet. I'm sticking it in for another 24 hours to see what happens.

Under 1000 wide works best for pics, I usually run mine 800 or even 600 or so.

Thanks for posting the pics, Kid. I've got a couple of really stubborn wheats that I just gave up on. Gotta give the potato thing a try....it worked so good even your FINGERS are cleaner!

Sometimes after a TH I stop by the mini mart for a cold one. The clerks have stopped commenting on my hands always being dirty. Still get funny looks from the other customers, though.

I've had mixed results using potatos. Most of my cruddy old coppers came out rather nicely after about a day. A few didn't. I think it all depends upon what kind of dirt and grime is on the coin.
