    Connecticut Copper

    Hi Everyone,

My camera is dead but I have found a couple of these before and was looking for some advice. I pulled two out of a stone foundation today and they are basically slugs. I can only make out a little of the outline from these two I found today. Is there anything I can do to either bring back the markings or any advice on cleaning? The other four I have found in the past were in better conditon than these two. I guess it might just be the copper.

unfortunately Cole, the copper coins are just hit or miss on condition , usually for me its only a couple really good ones for out of every dozen i find . unless they have a thick layer of caked on dirt and patina ( its hard for me to tell without seeing them ) and then i've experimented on different cleaning methods to get the best results but it boils down to how good the coin was when it got lost. hope this helps a little . would love to see the pictures. hey you actually found them in with the stones or on the floor of the cellar hole ?

    Re: Connecticut Copper

They were actually in the stone wall of the foundation. All of them have been so far. I also found the USA 1777 Military button in the wall as well. The DX-1 is a nice addition to use between the crevices in the stone foundation. I have them soaking in olive oil but I don't know if that will improve their condition any. I'll take some pictures when I get my camera back..hopefully this weekend. How do you usually clean yours?

    Re: Connecticut Copper

if the coins were found in the stones there shouldn't be to much damage from the earth i would think but if there very hard to see detail on them i would say they were in circulation(WORN) for quite awhile before they were lost. hey i did see that button , i didn't know that was you . thats a find of the year for sure , big congrats Cole . i use to use olive oil but it is a slow process and i really don't think it works that well , ifound another way to get faster and just as good if not better results also don't forget these coins are usually struck or pressed very weak to begin with so only parts of the coin are bold while other areas are not . this is one of my connecticut coppers
