Bringing Detail Out on a Corroded CT Copper

The soil around here seems to be particularly caustic for copper coins and many of the ones I dig come out looking like this Connecticut copper:

There tends to be pitting and green corrosion on all surfaces. Has anyone tried a technique that successfully brings out detail in coins like these? I don't think the peroxide method would be much use here since it doesn't seem like a question of getting the dirt off.

If the coins are stamped I wonder if what they used to bring out serial numbers stamped into a gun that were filed off would work
