    Using a toothbrush?

I use water and dishsoap when I clean items I find. I also use a toothbrush while cleaning. Is there any problem with this? Will it ruin any type of find?

Not for coins, if one cares about grading.
Very true! I was assuming the coins came out of the ground and are nasty and dirty. But if you care at all about grading, DO NOT clean your coins. Period. The coins I find in circulation, I don't ever clean. The ones I dig up, I usually clean, since they're already considered "damaged."

The coins coming from the ground that may be graded, I am assuming can at least be rinsed with water, right?
