Advice on cleaning an aluminum token

I like this token but as you can see itís pretty crusty. Curious what the best method to attempt cleaning it is? Iíve been soaking in water and picking at the crust with a toothpick but I seem to have come to an impasse. An opinions are appreciated.

Take a brass-bristle brush to it. It has no collector value in it dug condition, so you are only looking to improve its appearance and readability. There may be deep pits or even holes in the aluminum below the crust.

Soaked in vinegar and periodically cleaned with toothpicks and Q-tips.
