Found old gold men's ring

I found a very old men's gold ring with "LM 1900" inscribed on the inside. That's the date and the initials.
The ring is made by A.M. Charnier.
Here's my problem, it's heavily tarnished on the outside due to a large amount of copper in the gold, ( probably a very low grade of gold.)
I have tried a hot/soapy scrub with poor results but I am wondering if I can using the hot hydrogen peroxide trick on low grade gold?
Anyone have any suggestions and will the hydrogen peroxide destroy the ring?
Thanks.

adman,

Congrats on the gold :) :) :)

I'd try some jeweler's rouge and a soft cloth.

Post a pic, if you can.

Be very careful cleaning any A.M. Charnier jewelry.....very little is written about this jewelry maker and his items are rare. I would have it professionally cleaned and appraised.

Nice find

From the little written about Charnier...in some German translations, they talk about his high quality jewelry. Even when looking for his jewelry there seems to be very little . I see some victorian pieces ......So I wouldnt ruin it by cleaning it yourself, in case its a rare piece

Re: Found old gold men's ring

Hey GypsyHeart. Thanks for the warning as I had a tough time finding anything about this person as well.
I am of French descent so I do know that Charnier is a French name but, like you, I can't find any history on the person.
I'll take it to a jeweler and give you an update when I find out.
Thanks for your help!
