    Cleaning Old Horseshoes

I am brand new to both metal detecting and this website. Today I dug up a very old horseshoe on a friend's piece of land. It is encrusted with all kinds of junk. We have tried to clean it with a brush, but it still needs more work. Can anyone recommend a way to clean the horseshoe without damaging it?

Thank you very much for your help.

Have you tried putting it into an electrolysis tank?? That might work.

Since I'm new at this I don't have an electrolysis tank. Are they expensive? Is this something that I should purchase to clean most or all of my findings?

    Thanks for the welcome!
