    cleaning a mercury dime(1936)

    found my first merc. today and was wondering how i might go about cleaning it....its not that dirty but thought maybe there was a way to get it back to its 1936 shine.......any help would be appreciated.......mark43

    What kind of "dirt" are we talking about here? Is it dirt or oxidation? There is no easy cure for oxidation, but if a coin is valuable and has not been field cleaned, I advocate a coin conservation service like NCS.

    If it is "junk silver," some folks use baking soda for oxidation and polish it away.
