Hey, LOTS of people in the area.
I am a member of the Sacramento Valley Detecting Buffs
(http://www.sacramentovalleydetectingbuffs.com/)

and we have meets all the time.
Check out the website - we have group hunts 1st, second and third sundays
of each month.
Next is Feb. 1 we meet 8AM at Dennys on Watt ( I think near Auburn Rd.)
The meeting place is posted. The Second Sunday meets we gather at
Denny's off Sunrise Highway, just north of Hwy. 50

El Dorado County Mineral and Gem Society (http://www.eldoradomineralandgem.org/)

I am a member of both.
As the name suggests, the Gem Society is geared more towards geology and rocks, while the Buffs club is dedicated to metal detecting.
