i have been talking to a buddy of mine and he got me interested in MD'ing. I was wondering if i could get some information on where i would search , what MD's are good to use , and if any of you live nearby(huntington, suffolk county) i'd be glad to talk.

Ive been on the forum for a while but only been out once ..I'm in Centereach..I'm also looking for places to hunt...Just still a little confused on permits and places you can and cant go...Treasures unlimited in Patchouge and also I think in massapequa provided a ton of info I may join the detector club they have in Patchogue to meet and network with others...
May be we can meet up for a hunt Post or PM me...

In the Huntington area a good place to go is Dix Hills Park on Vanderbilt Pkwy just east of DPA . If you go up in the back of the park no one bothers you . I have found quite a few coins there . Nothing I can retire off of but some nice stuff .

As far as permits needed on Long Island , the only place that I know they are needed is in the State Parks . You can get one at the NYS Parks Headquarters at Belmont Lake State Park in Babylon , right off the Southern State Pkwy . They used to be free , then the State started charging $10 , now they are $20 and they are good for 1 year from the date of issue.

I am in Lindenhurst. I have been detecting for quite some time now. I am a local history buff and have found quite a few excellent places to hunt.

I took a year off from the hobby after my best friend passed away. He also was a 'detectorist' and it was really hard for me to get back into it. But...I am back. I would love to meet some locals to hunt with. Drop me a pm and lets get something going .

I hunted yesterday and Wednesday. The grounds weren't too bad. Actually in several places, the ground was extremely soft yet compact which made digging a pleasure.

I am in need of a new permit as mine has expired. I'll be heading over to Belmont early next week. If any of you are headed there to get a new permit, take a good pen and your best penmanship. I am not sure if they still do this but the last permit I applied for there, I was asked to fill out my own envelope (after I paid the $20) and that they would send me an application in my envelope. I did receive the application (I guess I have decent lettering after all ) and I mailed it back but never received my permit. I hope that they are still not using the same system. It seemed very odd that I had to pay first and apply after. I mean, I waited on line..paid my money and got squat in return. But, the permit is most definitely needed. I have been escorted out of my share of parks for lack of said paper.

I am a coin-shooter and relic hunter as well. I don't do much beach hunting though my friend that passed away used to clean up at Robert Moses. I am more into the history of a piece and the feeling I get when I hold a coin or relic that has not seen the light of day for over 100 years. Though, of course the clad and jewelry is always a plus for the wallet or the wife, I enjoy the sheer thrill of the hunt and the exuberance of the dig. I'd be willing to hunt just about anywhere including the beach. I swing a White's DFX so I know my machine is capable of good finds at the beach, I just need to learn that area of my machine a bit better.

I fancy myself to be quite the local history buff. And when I say local, I mean Babylon and inclusive towns and areas of Massapequa where I was raised. My Long Island knowledge is not to be sneezed at though as I am always researching and studying old maps and such. I love antiques and old bottles. I admire and respect older Americans and their lore. I often times feel as though I should have been born 100 years earlier and I feel an almost romantic sense when I pull an old relic from the abyss. I am good hearted and honest. I am a Patriot and when I have work, I pay my taxes. I guess what I am driving at is that I am a conservative, honest American that would like to hunt with like-minded individuals. I often times have a twisted sense of humor but most people seem to enjoy that .

I try to leave politics out of my MD'ing. I am sickened enough as it is with the state of this country and I metal detect so I can get away from it all. I just wanted to be upfront with you guys so you know where I stand. With all this being said, I hope that we can all get together soon for some hunting.

I will try to get down to the belmont state park for my permit asap..I would definitely like to meet and hunt with you...I'm a novice and have only been out a few times...I recently purchased a Tesoro Deleon from a great MDer from Tnet..
So I would like to get out and use it.I am in Centereach...I can md during the day as I work nights and am off thur. fri.

Hi all, Don't forget You Will Need a Permit for all state Beaches State Parks, and its Not $ 10.00 anymore or $ 20.00 BUT $ 40.00 !! for One Year !!

Hi guys and gals....

I am new to this site and I am a Long Islander....I am also a member of The Long Island Treasure Hunters Club in Patchogue...right now, I do the beaches and when the weather cools down some, I will be hitting the woods....

as far as permits, you do need the state permits for Robert Moses, Jones and other state beaches and a Green Key for county beaches, Smith Point...we have been told that as of March of this year, you also need another permit for the county as well....I don't know if any of you got out to the beaches these past couple weeks with the bad weather but I did and let me tell you, I was very disappointed!

I am always looking to hook up with new people, usually I hunt alone but always enjoy company along to share the finds with....
