Time to acknowledge the CRHers and amazing discoveries that stood out in 2008. I have some choices for winners but would like input for the other categories. On to the awards!

:sign13:[blue]THE LJ ROOKIE OF THE YEAR AWARD[/blue]:sign13:

Named after our resident silver queen who took the board by storm in January 2007.

My nominee for 2008 is [green]BBcardsRI[/green] aka Dave. He jumped into the CRH deep end and had some impressive totals for a first-timer. He showed a tremendous amount of enthusiasm and had lots of encouragement for others. You're the man this year Dave, congrats!

:notworthy: [blue]THE GMAN SEARCHER OF THE YEAR AWARD[/blue] :notworthy:

Named after the man whose search amounts leave everybody in the dust. GMan, we all aspire to be like you!

This year I nominate [green]Kestrelia[/green]. His search range knows no bounds. He has remarkable success in denoms most of us shun like quarters and small dollars, and his blog is always a great read. The KMan can sometimes give the GMan a run for his money. Nice going Brian!

:-[ [blue]CRH LEGACY AWARD[/blue] :-[

In 2008 we bid a sad and far too early farewell to Steve the [green]Silver_Fox[/green]. Somewhere in California, bank tellers wonder why he hasn't stopped by recently. We'll miss his stories, his humor and his friendship.

Re: 1st Annual CRH Awards - Best of 2008 (nominees needed)

My name anywhere near LJ's is far more than an honor. =)

Tis' greatly appreciated. =)

I like this little award thing... we'll have to keep this thing going. ;)

We need more categories and more officialness to it though, lol. =)

I submit mistergee for the hoard of the year.

Re: 1st Annual CRH Awards - Best of 2008 (nominees needed)

These awards are great!

I will second BBcardsRI for rookie of the year.

Mistergee for hoard of the year by far.

not sure who Kestrelia is, he hasn't been on here for the few months that I have, so I wont vote on that category.

I do agree with ~Dave though I think we could use a couple of more categories.
Examples maybe: Top pennies results(i would nominate TxTim, he's pulled like 10,000 wheats) Top nickels results, Top Dime results, Top Quarter results, Top halves Results, Top large Dollar, Top small dollar. Just a few ideas to toss around.

Keep up the good work. Happy new everyone and cant wait to search every coin in the area in 2009.

How about the top Top Troy Ounce Collected Award. I guess the advantage would go to all the "Half Hunters"... but here are my totals: Not sure who would get it but LJ :icon_queen: must be the favorite even with her "semi-retirement"! I think my totals equal about one of her good months. :-X

[blue]COIN OF THE YEAR[/blue]

Which was the best single find of the year? We had some doozies: Cat's large cent; three cent pieces; some amazingly old foreigns and even a gold coin.

Here is my list of those worth mentioning for coin of the year (in no particular order)

I am still shocked by the old roman coin I pulled out of a bag of dimes early this year.....not terribly valuable, but probably one of the most difficult....
* Roman, Constantine the Great (320 AD minted in Siscia)

Another would be I believe Coolpix had an old US Copper coin.....
* 1787 Draped Bust facing left, AUCIORI variety

* the 1852 silver 3 cent coin

* The 1921-D Walking Liberty Half Dollar (very tough key date)

* I believe there were two 1938 Capped Bust Half Dollars found (can't remember for sure)

* The 1868 Shield Nickel (first shield nickel mentioned on this board)

Hmm....I know there were a few other older foreign coins as well, but most of them were not silver and the large cent(s) I didn't list because the date was unreadable.

I was going to mention both of the 1838 halves found and the shield nickel as well, however I don't remember seeing a pic of the shield nickel. If I remember correctly, TxTim had to use nic-a-date on it to get a date. It would still qualify, but it'd be cool to see a pic of how it turned out.

Gman, thanks for the mention on the 3 cent silver . I think silver_stripe found a nickel 3 center as well.

By all means, let's get specific on catagories. Four is all I could come up with after last night's festivities :occasion16:

Some other possibilities: Best Single Banks, Best Bank Chain, Best Teller, Best Road Trip. Then we can also do "Best of the Worst": Worst Teller, Worst Bank Chain, Worst Single Banks, Worst Skunk Streak, etc.

I will accept the award for worst streak, 41 half boxes and counting.... I am just doing halves out of spite now. :icon_king:

40 something skunks... *chills*.

You BETTER be the winner for that one... would hate to run across the person with more skunks than THAT!

Yea - 40+ skunks...the "Persistence Award" is a definite. I think I had a dozen there at one point but was doing quite a few per week at the time so they went by fairly fast. I also scored on some hand rolls in between so they didn't bother me much but 41 ouch.

Re: 1st Annual CRH Awards - Best of 2008 (nominees needed)

Mistergee for unusual hoard of the year. Only because it was rolls of pristine Franklin Rolls in untouched condition. It wasn't the most but Notable for it's unusual nature.

I think We could also include some sort of photographic category. We love photo's

I think any category or winner needs to have a photo to Qualify.

How about these other categories

Novelty coins. Most unusual or just the most. I personally have found over 50 Magic coins and about a dozen of the plated and double punched 1965/1980 Kennedy

Oldest Foreign coin

Best error or Biggest clipped planchet.

Best or most commeritives.

Best Proof.

Best story.

Best writer.

Most 1970D or S found.

Most interesting.

Largest hoard found for ea. denomination........

Here are some photos from my Archives.

Mojo.....

My oldst foreign coin is this 1896 ten centavo found in a box of dimes from Brinks.

Is that a 1921 D Walking Liberty? :icon_scratch:

Gman, thanks for the mention on the 3 cent silver . I think silver_stripe found a nickel 3 center as well.

I thought of the nickel 3-center as well, and not that its not noteworthy, but I figured the silver one trumped it so I didn't mention it.

Re: 1st Annual CRH Awards - Best of 2008 (nominees needed)

Kestrelia and I both found hoards of IHCs, I got a handroll of 55 (mostly that appeared dug) IHCs and I think he had 40-something spread out between a few hand rolls. Also, of course there was the few boxes of nickels with the herd of Buffalos, and recently the box of nickels with all the V nickels. Wasn't it BBcards that had that big stash of dimes that he found all at once, also? And then for quarters I remember seeing a post a while back with a huge stash of silver Washingtons in a quarter bag, can't remember who it was though. Off the top of my head, that's all the hoards of other denominations I can remember.

Re: 1st Annual CRH Awards - Best of 2008 (nominees needed)

Thanks for the G-Man award nomination, Immy. Your comments have inspired me to start the year off right! :)

Maybe we should put our nominations (hoards, single finds) up for a vote with original posts so people can remember?

I think GMan's Roman coin is the most impressive single coin find, but I think the gold ducat I found in a penny roll is up there as well, best foreign coin perhaps?

Can someone with search capabilities come up with a list of hoards?

Re: 1st Annual CRH Awards - Best of 2008 (nominees needed)

Yea Dr., I did have a decent little dime score. ;)

And Kestrelia, I can try to search up the best hoards... not sure what the fastest/best way to do that would be, but I will try.

And that gold coin in a penny roll is one of my favorite single coin finds I have read about... so that should definately be up for the vote!
