"PCH"........

....or "Pocket Change Hunting"....for lack of a better term......its what my Dad used to do when he was a kid...and he kept most of it ;D....ever wonder what you might find in your pocket change as a kid in the 30's and 40's?...well wonder no more....
i stopped at my parents house to drop off some mail from our summer home and my Dad says "i want you to look at something for me"...i'm figuring its a plumbing job or something :icon_scratch:...and he comes down with bags of SILVER ;D he says " take a look through this stuff for me and see if i have anything important in there and give me an idea of what this stuff is worth".....now mind you i lived there for 23 yrs and knew everthing that was there anywhere in that house...or at least i thought....i also saw many of his coins when i was a kid....after all he was the one who introduced me to coin collecting as well as stamp collecting when i was very young...he showed me how to spot silver and i was pulling stuff from circulation ever since....although my lifetime finds are nothing compared to what he brought down.....
a bag of halfs,a bag of quarters, a bag of dimes, a bag of nickles,a tin can of nickles and a small bag of pennies
i did a quick run through them when i got home..here is some preliminary stuff for now and i'll post all dates and denominations as soon as i go through everything...and if i can figure a way (my lap top is down) to post pics, i'll do that too
here's what i found so far....

I tell you what that's pretty neat. Interesting how people save stuff. I was able to get some from my grandma (mom's side...few silver dollars, WL quarter, a ton of wheat pennies). I just excited my grandpa on my dad's side about collecting and he began pulling out his old stuff (1 large cent, few v nickels, indian head pennies and some silver dollars). We have them to thank when we get those someday, and everyone elses grandparents to thank when they dump theirs and we find it in circulation!!

Were they in excellent condition?

HH and cool stuff

Re: "PCH"........

no Dan ...matter of fact they were the most worn coins i have seen in a long time...these babies were heavily circulated before Dad pulled them...there were some nice ones but they were the exception to the rule.

Re: "PCH"........

That's pretty cool, my dad has always been a coin collector and when he was a kid (in the late 60's and early 70's) he found a mercury dime, then he went to K-Mart and stuck it in the gumball machine, he was very sad when he had realized what he had done. He has got me into coin collecting and PCH and recently got a 1949-D Washington quarter! I was so excited when it happened!

That is a very nice stash Mr G, my folks have a pretty good stash from the early 60s they have some halves, quarters etc. It is pretty interesting what people have stashed away . Nice post thanks for sharing, Ed
