This Week and Luck

So a couple days ago, I went to a new town to do some CRHing.
The very first bank I hit I get $45 in loose halves. I got
(30) 40% lots of 1968, and (6) 90% 1964. I was ready
to go home right there. I pressed my luck and went to two
more banks and got nothing. I went home. I knew there
were like 5 more banks in the town I could search, but I
wanted to enjoy my day and my good luck.

Yesterday, I went to another bank and bought $50 worth.
$10 was loose, $40 were in rolls. I found nothing. Teller
said they came from a whole box of halves and she had $450
more. I asked if someone brought them in, she said no they
were probably ordered by mistake. I thought about getting the
rest, they did seem machine rolled in these white and yellow
wrappers, but I didn't think a bank would mistakenly order a box.
I didn't want to get a box someone already looked through.
What do you think? Should I go back and pick up the other $450?
This bank is a fairly newly built bank in a new shopping area.

were the rolls you opened wrapped tightly or did they look wrinkled or untucked at one end? Machine rolls should rounded and tight on both ends. If they were like this you have a whole box of unsearched halves back there and I would get them all. Judging from the fact that you found nothing in the first rolls...the box could contain at least a few 40%ers. It is worth it to find out. About a year ago I stopped into one back that had 400 in rolls and I thought they were someones dumps and almost left them there. Turned out to be my biggest find to date 705 silver keepers including a Barber.!!Let us know what you find.

I do know of Bank that has its own coin roller, rolls look like they came from Fed or Brinks etc, machine sealed on both ends.
Had one teller once told me I could have $700 worth someone brought in that were searched for Silver- she warned me first rather than let me take them.

I'd buy them. If no silver look for proofs, 1974d doubled die obverse, 1976 reverse cud errors, 1982p no FG, and NIFC halves (1987 and 2002-present).

Oops, looks like a made a mistake. They are rolled tightly
and round on the ends. I will pick them up on Monday if
they are still there.

I usually only look for silver. Once in a while I notice something
about a coin and will keep it. Once I got a gold colored Kennedy,
but I mistakenly sent it back. I have a few that might be errors,
have some marks on them, but I don't look for them specifically.
I will have to search more carefully.

What is "no FG" and "NIFC"?

Thanks!

NIFC (not intended for circulation) 1987 and 2002-present Halves.

no FG = on 1982p on the reverse sometimes the designers initials (FG) are missing from below the right leg of the eagle and above the tail feathers. Easy to spot without a loupe and a very quick check when searching.

Thanks for the info. I know I've come across the more recent
coins, but I've never kept them. I didn't think they had any
value not being silver. I guess them being NIFC, they eventually
might have some value down the road. I will try to keep the
better examples of the 1987 and 2002-present if I find them.

Today I picked up the rest of the box.
I got one 1967 and one 1969. I also got a 1974 with a hole
in it. A big one, about a quarter of an inch. Must be
man-made right? It can't be an error, right?
I got a bunch of coins that almost looked brand new.
Some as far back as 1971, that looked almost pristine.
Other than that, nada. Not very good for my first halves
box, but at least I did not get skunked.
I don't know if I'll pick up another box again. Now I have
to reroll them all, and find wrappers, *lol*. My bank was out.

I have good luck asking for loose halves, I think I might just stick with that.

Possibly, but I doubt it as the hole is on the side.
People would probably drill a hole at the top for a necklace.
I just wanted to make sure that holes were man-made
and not ever mint made.
The guy who drilled it did a really nice job. It doesn't
look like much damage to the coin, it's a clean cut.

You will find marked on coins of all shapes and sizes. Toss it back in the wild and it might
turn into silver the next time around. ;D
