Does anybody find errors?

When I CRH I check each individual coin for errors and have yet to find anything! Is anybody finding any or am I the only one looking. I have seen that a few people have found the AM varieties which I cant seem to track any down and I haven't seen anyone come up with newer DD errors or rotated reverses. Let me know what you find so I can live vicariously through your CRH experience. Thanks

Susan B Anthony dollar coins I have found one 1979 wide rim

For Halves I have found 4 1977-D without the FG under the left leg, aside from that no errors found

Do you have any suggestions?

Just got to keep at it. It took almost a year to get some nice ones. I got a significant penny clip, a wheat with two clips, 2 laminated planchets, grease filled die, and many nickel varieties (2x1941 large s, 1941 inverted s, etc).

Most errors are picked out by the public before we come along, so either you must got through a lot of coins or get bags of unrolled mint coins (straight from the mint) to get spectacular errors, or boxes for coins that can fit in rolls, like blanks

For varieties, I would get a guide book, availible in most book stores. If you do that, make sure to get a pile of the date and mint which makes it easier to compare

I search for errors constantly, and am finding very little to show for all the hours I spend looking thru a loupe trying to spot em!

some errors MAY be spotted by the general public but a lot of errors you need magnification to see them and NO WAY the general population are finding them and saving them. I refuse to believe that.

I can bet you money you could ask 100 people on the street if they had any clue at all what a wide AM penny was and you'd be lucky if 1 or 2 people had a clue what your talking about.

I bought a bunch of silver coins a couple of days ago. (sorry not CRH) and in one lot of about $50 (face value) of dimes were 4 merc's that just didn't look right. (sorry no pics) They looked identical maybe 1mm smaller and 50% thicker that your standard silver dime. The reeded rim is very well struck but the image front and back is weak. At first I thought a counterfit coin but that is a lot of work to fake a dime. Now I think they might be counterfit but overstruck on a foreign non-silver coin.

I will try and get pics later, very busy today with honey-do's.

Very interesting Mercs. Do they "ring" when you tap them? What if you file the edge off of one to see what the underlying metal looks like?

I only use a 4X should I move to a 10X?

I only use a 4X should I move to a 10X?

well I use an 8x and a 10x
personally a 4x would not be good enough for me, but maybe your eyes are better than mine? You can get em on ebay pretty cheap!

I started searching for 1974D ddo with a 10x loupe. Then I started looking for the 1982p no FG (you don't need a glass to spot these) The others I just started to find here and there. Again, most of the errors I find you don't need a loupe to see, you just have to be observant when searching (both visually and audibly).

I am sure they are fake. But remember that is a middle 40's dime. Got more buyng power back then. I am going to post this on a coin forum and let you all know their opinion.

Maybe that planchet was only worth a cent back then = 9 times profit.
