I just got back from a vacation in Cali with my kids (no CRH time) and had Friday free so I decided to do a road trip. I had a few towns I had been waiting for an opportunity to check out since I had never been there before.

Well, unfortunately I slept through my alarm and woke up about 2.5 hours late.... Grrr...hate when that happens.

bank #1
----------
got some cash for the trip...one of my weekly stops so I'll be back later for anything they may have.

Started in a 3 bank town I hadn't been to in over 6 months...possibly a year or so...
bank #2
---------
Had been told the last time I stopped in that they would sell the half dollar bags off the machine so I figured it would be a good place to start....pulled in around noon (early start... :P )

Well they did sell me the half dollar bag...all $236.50 of it.

1 Walking Liberty (1945)
1 - 90% Kennedy (1964-D)
2 - 40% Kennedy (1967, 1969-D)
2 Foreign (Denmark, 5 Kroner (1990), Zimbabwe, 1 Dollar (1980))

but lots of little change (so I essentially paid silver value for the few coins I found)
18 Quarters
4 Dimes
3 Nickels
10 Pennies

1 Token
1 Key Ring
1 Fuse

bank #3
---------
Cashed a small batch of rejects to get some more cash

bank #4
---------
Picked up $150 in halves rolled by the tellers....skunk

On to another 3 bank town I had been through, but never stopped at the banks
bank #5
---------
Picked up $360 in halves some fed rolled, some teller rolled
and $400 in teller rolled nickels

The $360 in halves produced
2 - 40% Kennedy (1968-D, 1969-D)
1 Foreign (Panama, Medio Balboa (1993))

bank #6
---------
$6 in loose halves...skunk

bank #7
---------
1 - $1000 bag of dimes
1 - $100 bag of pennies (combined 2 $50 bags)

The bag of dimes had
1 Mercury (1945-D)
8 pre-1965 Roosevelt (1961-D, 1962-D, 1964(2), 1964-D(4))

1 Canadian (2002-P)

6 Foreign:
Barbados, 10 Cents (1998)
East Caribbean States, 10 Cents (2000)
Great Britain, 5 New Pence (1991, 1994)
Greece, 1 Drachma (1988)
Jersey, 5 Pence (1990) <-- looks similar to British 5 Pence but says Bailiwick of Jersey on the one side had to look it up.

Next town is a 4 bank town I had had good luck at in the past at 3 of the banks
bank #8
---------
$14.50 in loose halves...skunk

bank #9
---------
$500 bag of halves freshly off their coin machine

1 Walking Liberty (1945)
3 - 90% Kennedy (1964(2), 1964-D))
5 - 40% Kennedy (1966, 1967, 1968-D, 1969-D(2))

3 Quarters
2 Dimes
5 pennies

1 Drink Token
1 Token
1 Circular photo

bank #10
---------
no longer will sell bags.. BOO!! (did well with the last bag from this bank a couple years ago)

bank #11
---------
no longer will sell bags... Double BOO!!

Now on to towns I had never stopped at the rest of the way
Small 2 bank town that I had been eying for awhile...turns out I'll probably never go back..
bank #12
---------
$2 in halves...skunk

bank #13
---------
$0.50 in halves..skunk

Next 2 bank town I thought held a lot of promise
bank #14
---------
Was told someone was there last week and bought all their halves...Grr....

bank #15
---------
Closed early due to holiday at 2 PM...(hmm...2:15...oh well)

bank #16
---------
Called ahead to the next bank as I had to make a choice as to which route to take...they said they had $396 in halves...I said I'll be right there..

$396 in half dollars
2 - 40% Kennedy (1968-D, 1969-D)

Next town was another 4 bank town that I thought held promise....which was quickly dashed at stop #1
bank #17
---------
Again heard someone was just here last week and bought all our halves.

bank #18
---------
$1 in loose halves...skunk

bank #19
---------
8 rolls of halves..skunk

bank #20
---------
$2 in halves...skunk
Again heard someone was there last week..

Not to be deterred I powered on to the next town...one with lots of banks and a few areas I thought held promise....(all but the last stop were in this town)
bank #21
---------
Was told they had a $500 bag of halves of the machine. After purchasing it, the lead teller made a few comments that indicated that she had probably pulled any silver..and apparently she had..

$500 bag of halves...
1 - 2007-P
1 - 2007-D

bank #22
---------
Apparently another collecter frequents this bank...their bag of halves filled at $50 didn't have much in it so I just let it sit...not worth the argument since they started asking about accounts...blah blah blah...

bank #23
---------
Cashed in the halves I had been scanning through in the car while driving....all $1510.50 of them just in case I needed the cash later on...in the process I the half-dollar bag filled before the first $500 had run through, so I asked to buy the bag back and they let me.

Also picked up 1 - $200 bag of nickels and 1 - $50 bag of pennies

I finally got to sorting through this half dollar bag today as I had left it for last....decent bag
2 - 90% Kennedy (1964(2))
52 - 40% Kennedy (1965(4), 1966(7), 1967(18), 1968-D(13), 1969-D(10))
1 - 40% Silver Proof Kennedy (1968-S)

3 Canadian 2-Dollar (1996(2), 2001)
11 Foreign (Australia, 20 Cents (2001), East Caribbean States, 1 Dollar (1991), Fiji, 20 Cents (1985), France, 5 Francs (1993), Great Britain, 50 Pence (2001, 2006), Italy, 100 Lire (1979), Mexico, 1 Peso (1971(3)), Nicaragua, 5 Cordobas (2000))

4 Quarters
2 Dimes

1 Disneyland token

bank #24
---------
wouldn't sell any bags and had no halves on hand.

bank #25
---------
vault tellers was gone for the day already....no luck

bank #26
---------
nada

bank #27
---------
$118.50 in loose halves
2 - 40% Kennedy (1967, 1968-D)

bank #28
---------
Filled up their half dollar bag so I could buy it back.

So I ended up with $434 from the half dollar bag and 6 fed rolls of halves. Also picked up 1 - $500 bag of dimes, 2 - $50 bags of pennies.

the 6 fed rolls of halves were a skunk.
the $434 from the bag...
8 - 40% Kennedy (1965, 1967(5), 1968-D, 1969-D)
1 - 2003-P

3 Foreign (Germany, 2 Mark (1974-J), Jamaica, 50 Cents (1984), Sweden, 5 Kronor (1983))

1 Car Wash Token
2 metal pieces about that size.

In the $500 bag of dimes....
4 pre-1965 Roosevelt (1963-D, 1964-D(3))

3 Canadian (1977, 1978, 2002-P)

now almost out of banking hours I hurried to the next section of town.
bank #29
---------
nada

bank #30
---------
drive thru only....nada

bank #31
---------
wouldn't sell me bags, but picked up $12.50 in loose halves..
4 - 90% Kennedy (1964-D(4))
1 - 40% Kennedy (1965)

bank #32
---------
skunk

bank #33
---------
$0.50 in loose halves...skunk

bank #34
---------
drive thru...skunk

and I just had time to drive to the next town and make closing time on one bank that had sold bags to me in the past.

bank #35
---------
Got there as he was walking to the door with the keys....turns out the vault teller was not there....no luck.

So net total for the trip of what I have searched so far....
$3462.50 in halves searched...
2 - Walking Liberty
10 - 90% Kennedy
74 - 40% Kennedy
1 - 40% Kennedy proof

out of $1500 in dimes
1 Mercury dime
12 silver Roosevelt

Total silver for the trip so far
100 silver coins...(which just so happened to be my goal for the trip)

Left to search
$400 in nickels
$250 in pennies

Gman you cover all the bases my friend. I can't help but wonder what damage you could do if you concentrated all your efforts and finances on finding silver or even just halves. I think you would tare it up.
