Earned a roll of Walkers, by not crh'ing

Not to be a buzzkill, but i saved about $125 by not crhing for 3 months-my savings in gas. Not quite as fun, but what can i say? I still love the hobby, prob won't give it up anytime soon, just does not work for me lately. Did good with dimes, averaged 1/$150, yet they ended up costing about $2 ea. Bought the Walkers off evilbay. Good luck to all. ffd

Sold off items from my last hobby and bought a Toyota Prius. Ugly car, but it is so good on gas, that I don't factor the expense in.

I can relate to this. When I was in full CRHing addiction mode I would drive all over the place looking for halves. This "hobby" can be a real time and resource killer if it gets out of control.

If I get any now it is from banks close by. If I do get any boxes I might as well order them from a close bank. They all come from the same Brinks facility around here, so there is no reason to drive far for boxes unless a local bank is out and the far away bank has them available.

Business has been slow for the past week or so, thus I have had more time to spend CRHing. I hope I don't wind up on another "binge". ;D

The way I look at it is this habit forces me to save. I have only been at it for about three months and have stashed away over $1500 worth of silver. I don't believe I would have been able save this amount of cash over the same period.

As long as you can find that amount of silver you are doing great. But when the finds start to slow down to a trickle is when a person starts to feel like they are wasting their time, because pretty much they are at that point.

Hopefully you won't get to that point for a long time.

Couldn't find an American made Car?

It seems to me the difference in milage woulden't be worth putting Working Americans out of work so you could save a couple of dollars a week on gas. I guess Obama will get that savings from you in the form of new Taxes.

Nice job FFD!! I guess there are many ways to acquire a collection.

One thing I have been doing is saving all of my aluminum cans and will eventually sell them to see what it brings. I have no idea how much aluminum cans are worth by the pound, never done this before but I figure I may be able to purchase a few Mercs for my collection book. That is my plan anyway. I have about 15-20 garbage bags full now. It's getting time to cash in because my husband is starting to growl about space in the garage....lol. We'll see what it brings.

It's nice to see someone include the price of CRH'ing occasionally. We sometimes forget when we post only the good some of the newbies don't take into account the time, money and effort that goes into our "free" hobby.

Mojo,

I always bought American when I lived in America. I now live in a Fabian Socialist country where everything sold is made by child slave labor in third world countries.
Not my fault, I've always voted for independants even if it was a write in.

LJ,
Here in Connecticut we have a bottle/can return policy. Just put the cans and plastic soda bottles in a dispenser and get a nickel apiece. Scuba Steve buys Morgan and Peace dollars with the money he gets from cans.

Yeah there are no Toyota plants here in the states employing hard working americans. Get off your high horse. This is a CRH forum there was no need for some political judgement.

I'm not offended by what Mojo said. He is entitled to his opinion just like everyone else.

Re: Earned a roll of Walkers, by not crh'ing

I've been using public transportation lately to get around for my hunts. It works really well if you're in an area that has a reasonable system. I just take a look at the maps of all the stops, then find the banks that are in walking distance. Not only do I save a TON on gas, but I also don't have the stress of putting up with the traffic. In addition, I have more time on my hands to read and educate myself where I would otherwise be driving. Last, I get some great exorcize walking to the banks (and carrying boxes of pennies and halves in my backpack, lol) and a lot of fresh air (Relatively, it is L.A.!)

Yes in a few years but not now.

What is wrong with an unemployed auto worker, living in the motor city, with an unemployment rate above 15%, having a hard time with people buying foreign products, at the drop of a dime.

I'm not trying to be offensive but I am having a hard time understanding America's willingness to cause a imbalance in our economy. That is what has happend here. it did not happen overnight. It has been building over the years and our manufacturing base has dried up, because we like to save a few bucks, by shopping at company's like Wal Mart and buying Foreign made cars.

We have been Brainwashed in this country. "Save money Live better." Well guess what I'm not living any better nor are the 15% of my unemployed Neighbors. Oh wait 15% of my neighbors have left to move to Mississippi. To work at Toyota plants. because their house was forclosed when they lost their job with the U.S. auto industry. They are getting assistance now though. From the Gov't for the time being. Till that runs out. Can't continue giving out money without taking in money in the form of taxes.

Maybe if we could just Tax the rich more all our problems will be solved. Than we wouldn't have to worry about working for a living. We could just collect Gov't assistance and let the rich pay for it all. Than I could just CRH all day long...... In my Prius..... Built in the USA. ???

I'm just saying.

Mojo. An Unemployed auto industry worker.

Re: Earned a roll of Walkers, by not crh'ing

Mojo,
I agree with you,and have worked on the assembly line at Ford many years ago. I've always owned American cars. I had wanted my next car to be a Crown Victoria, but the time that I needed a car the gas prices were at their peak. So I had to get what I got.
When I buy anything I always try to buy American made, but that's not always possible.

Mojo - I agree with some of what you said and disagree with the rest and you are entitled to your opinion. That being said I don't want a political argument here, there is a board already for political discussion, I want to read and discuss CRHing. Lets keep it civil and about the silver.
